“I won’t say his name, because the guy returned it and there’s no reason for me to screw him, even though what he did was wrong,” said Bianco after the Thief Returns the Assets

Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology are full of opportunities but have their fair share of risks too. It’s a realm where fortunes can be made and lost in the blink of an eye. More than often there is no consolation for those who find themselves victims of theft. One such incident shook the crypto world when a Brazilian YouTuber, Ivan Bianco, was the victim. Bianco is known for his blockchain gaming-focused channel “Fraternidade Crypto”.

Live Stream Keyphrase Reveal

The incident with Bianco started when he foolishly revealed his cryptocurrency wallet’s seed phrases during a livestream on his YouTube channel. These seed phrases are like a digital key that unlocks access to one’s crypto wallets. It’s pretty much like leaving the front door wide open, and unfortunately for Bianco, some individuals were there to advantage of this lapse in security.

During the live stream, viewers watched in shock as Bianco opened a document that had his seed phrases. This resulted in his hard-earned funds being stolen by someone. At the time, “Fraternidade Crypto” boasted around 34,000 subscribers on YouTube and had over 2.2 million views since its launch in 2017, making this incident all the more impactful.

This security breach turned out to be a nightmare for the YouTuber. There was little Bianco could do as he saw his fortunes being swept away in a blink. The cryptocurrency from two of his wallets had already been taken within minutes. The loss amounted to nearly $60,000, a staggering sum for anyone.

To make matters worse, Bianco confirmed that the stolen assets included both cryptocurrency and a collection of NFTs. These digital assets are one-of-a-kind and can be extremely valuable, making the incident even more terrifying.

In the aftermath of the disaster, Bianco decided to enlist the assistance of law enforcement agencies. In an attempt to recover the stolen funds, he filed a police report. However, he was aware that law enforcement agencies frequently struggle to understand the complexities of blockchain technology, making it difficult to effectively pursue cases.

Bianco expressed his concerns, stating “The police don’t understand much about this, so I think this will take time. I’ll have to look for it myself together with the community.”

The (Not so Common) Happy Ending

Just when things seemed bleak, the story took an unexpected twist. After the theft, an unidentified person reached out to Ivan Bianco via Discord. They engaged in a conversation that left everyone surprised. The individual admitted to stealing Bianco’s crypto and expressed deep regret for his/her actions.

In the conversation, the remorseful individual reportedly stated, “I messed up here, I know what I did was bad,” before abruptly ending the call and leaving. It was an unusual turn of events, and it left both Bianco and the crypto community puzzled.

Later, it was reported that the thief had a change of heart. The wallet that had initially stolen the majority of the funds returned the 86,600 MATIC tokens, which were worth approximately $50,800 at the time of the theft. In total, Bianco confirmed that about $50,000 worth of cryptocurrency was returned to him.

The sudden return of the stolen assets raised questions and skepticism among some of Bianco’s fans. They questioned the authenticity of the story, wondering if it was a setup or a staged event. However, Bianco staunchly rejected these claims, maintaining that the returned cryptocurrency was indeed recovered through the course of events.

Bianco’s Response

One of the most surprising aspects of this entire episode is Bianco’s response to the thief’s change of heart. Although he seems to have identified the individual responsible for the theft, Bianco has chosen not to reveal their identity. He explained his decision by stating that since the individual returned the stolen assets and expressed remorse, he saw no reason to publicly expose the person’s name. However, he did acknowledge that what the individual did was wrong.

While Bianco may have chosen not to disclose the identity of the individual who returned the stolen cryptocurrency, he is not turning a blind eye to others who allegedly stole smaller amounts from his wallet. He stated that these individuals “are being tracked and will be located.” This suggests that he is actively working to recover the remaining stolen assets and hold those responsible accountable.
