Ever wondered if you will be able to experience immersive Web3 games based on fictional comics and graphic novels? Kevin Foxe, the well-known Hollywood producer has taken measures to reshape the world of the 2014 Dark Horse Comics graphic novel “Mandala” into a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).

Mandala

The executive producer of the 1999 horror classic “The Blair Witch Project” is Foxe. In an interview, Foxe discussed his views on cryptocurrency and the media, the studio structure in Hollywood, and his plans to revamp the horror world of Mandala into a game.

Mandala by Dark Horse

A fantastic book by Dark Horse named “Mandala” has struggled to gain widespread recognition for some unknown reasons. After a detailed review, it was discovered that “Mandala” by writer Stuart Moore (a former editor at Vertigo) and illustrator Bruce Zick (a concept artist for Disney and Pixar) has all the components of a super hit comic. We’re still confused why “Mandala” hasn’t gained much popularity, however, you should give it a read.

Mandala is less of a comic book but a call to action for all of us to make a difference in the world. Mandala often combines various genres and is filled with metafictional goodness. It has quite a similar story to The Matrix, but we don’t think comparing it to that film is fair. It is a whole separate beast that uses the comic book medium in a manipulative way.

Foxe started working with Stuart Moore and Bruce Zick, the Mandala’ comics’ writers, and artists, about 10 years ago to discuss possible adaptation. The source material has a dark tone and combines aspects of mystic and occult beliefs with an apocalyptic, biting condemnation of corporate power and spying regimes. It follows the main character Mike Morningstar as he battles the GRID, a “global mind-control system,” alongside a team of mythical figures known as The Thirteen. Shortly after its debut, Bloody Disgusting, a newspaper specializing in horror, dubbed the graphic novel a “killer” that “missed popularity for some reason.”

Like other artists and filmmakers creating their next works on Web3, Foxe doesn’t want the upcoming versions of “Mandala” to be limited to a single kind. Instead, he intends to “gamify” the “Mandala” experience through a television show, a video game, and other community-driven activities.

Foxe talked about his plan:

“I envision being able to tell a story to an audience across many platforms. He further added that he sees multimedia platforms suitable for a project that explores multiple universes and simultaneous timelines. And I love the idea of using tech to tell stories”.

With “Mandala,” Foxe refers to the project’s many components as an “enlightenment simulator,” with the expectation that this will enable participants to see possible truths in the material’s more general topics.

“I hate to sound like this, but we’re sort of a rebel alliance fighting against these big corporate entities that will take our data and will take our privacy and are working against all of that,” Foxe said of his decision to develop “Mandala” in Web3.

Before AT&T’s 2018 acquisition., the “Mandala” television series was in production at Warner Bros. Foxe informed that the project is still in the development process and his team still owns the IP rights.

Foxe explained: “We walked away with it. We have all of the content, all of the IP. I mean, that was another sticking point for us, right? The studio wants to then own the IP”.

Mandala the advanced MMORPG

Foxe has long wanted “Mandala” to be turned into a video game. Due to the fact that the “Mandala” team believes that cryptocurrency is developing far more quickly than video game development, they are planning to develop the game in “tranches” as Foxe explained. His team has already created several game mechanics and models using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, but they are presently searching for a Web3-savvy “game partner” to assist them reshape the project.

“I constantly look to Tim Sweeney and Epic because I think they have it figured out,” Foxe said of the Fortnite creator and its CEO. “We’re really following their lead and hoping to work with them real soon.”

There are profile pictures on Ethereum, Polkadot, and Cardano, and “Mandala ‘’ has previously been tested with NFTs across various chains. It has planned to launch further NFTs on the Polygon-powered Immutable zkEVM network.

A question was asked whether the current “Mandala” NFTs will play a part in the game. In response, Foxe said that such aspects haven’t been settled just yet, but that there are already “rabbit holes” for fans to delve into the information that determines the tokens’ unique characteristics.

Despite the fact that Foxe has been tirelessly working for it for over a decade, there is no confirmation about the exact launch of its MMORPG game and television show. However, it is evident that something revolutionary is about to take over web3 and MMORPG fans.
