Creators of Axie Infinity and CyberKongz Join Forces to Develop a New Web3 Game Ecosystem
Pioneering Innovation, Play-to-Earn Rewards, and Web3 Integration for an Immersive Gaming Ecosystem
Sky Mavis and CyberKongz, have come together to redefine the gaming experience on the blockchain. Sky Mavis, the mastermind behind the renowned play-to-earn game Axie Infinity, and CyberKongz, a prominent Ethereum-based NFT collection, have recently announced a groundbreaking partnership to create a comprehensive gaming ecosystem on the Ronin blockchain. This partnership will open up new avenues for players and revolutionize the gaming industry using Web3 technology.
Sky Mavis and Axie Infinity
Axie Infinity took the gaming world by storm in 2021 when it introduced the revolutionary concept of “play-to-earn.” This groundbreaking paradigm shift allowed players to earn crypto tokens while enjoying the immersive gameplay experience. However, co-founder Aleksander Larsen acknowledged that the play-to-earn model had some limitations in its current state. According to Larsen, for the gaming model to be truly successful, games must prioritize fun and entertainment first, while also offering a robust economic backing that enables players to earn rewards seamlessly.
In pursuing continuous innovation and growth, Sky Mavis turned its attention to further expanding the gaming ecosystem. Partnering with CyberKongz seemed like a natural step toward achieving this vision. CyberKongz, an Ethereum-based NFT collection, hit the headlines in 2021 for its unique ability to burn a staggering $4 million worth of Ether (ETH) in just five hours during its minting event. This level of attention and engagement displayed CyberKongz’s potential to captivate the gaming community, making it an ideal partner for Sky Mavis in its quest to redefine blockchain gaming.
The Genkai Mint: A Fusion of Cultures
The partnership between Sky Mavis and CyberKongz gave birth to the Genkai Mint, an anime-inspired art collection that draws its inspiration from Japanese folklore. With the success of Axie Infinity’s play-to-earn model, this new mint is expected to resonate with gamers across the Southeast Asian and Japanese markets, opening up new frontiers for both projects. The Genkai Mint event is scheduled for July 27, 2023, at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Notably, 4,000 Genkais were made available on the Ronin platform via the Mavis Market, while another 16,000 NFTs were offered on the Ethereum Mainnet.
Play & Kollect: Migrating to Ronin
Apart from the Genkai mint, the partnership also involves CyberKongz migrating its Play & Kollect game from the Polygon blockchain to the Ronin blockchain. Play & Kollect is a fully on-chain gaming experience that enables players to find, mint, and collect their favorite NFTs directly within the game.
The decision to move to the Ronin blockchain was driven by a desire to access Ronin’s core gaming community. Ronin is well-known for being laser-focused on gaming and offers negligible fees, allowing for millions of microtransactions without the elevated gas fees that burden other blockchains. The migration promises to enhance CyberKongz’s user base, foster greater engagement, and drive new interactions within the Ronin gaming ecosystem.
The Potential of Interoperability and Web3 Integration
One of the key themes of this partnership is the emphasis on interoperability and seamless integration within the Web3 ecosystem. Sky Mavis has started to open up its infrastructure to Web3, making it easier for other projects and games to leverage the Ronin blockchain. This move will likely give rise to gaming communities that are more rewarding and long-lasting, as players enjoy the benefits of interconnected experiences across multiple games.
Kathleen Osgood, the head of business development at Sky Mavis, expressed her positive outlook on the future of blockchain gaming. “The potential to attract a massive audience lies in the innovative approach of leveraging Web3 as a new experience while effectively tapping into users who are inherently drawn to its unique offerings”, said Osgood.
Sky Mavis and CyberKongz have demonstrated their commitment to reshaping the landscape of blockchain gaming by joining forces and pushing the boundaries of what is possible within the Web3 ecosystem. The Genkai mint, the migration of Play & Kollect to Ronin, and the integration with Web3 are all exciting steps toward creating a more immersive and rewarding gaming experience for players.
As the partnership between these visionary projects evolves, the gaming community eagerly awaits the unveiling of the new game and experiences that will showcase the true potential of Web3 integration. By breaking free from the constraints of traditional gaming and embracing the innovative spirit of blockchain technology, Sky Mavis and CyberKongz are charting a course toward a more exciting and inclusive future for gaming enthusiasts worldwide.
